Our First Painted Lady, 2001

Image
Notice the chrysalis in the background? The wings are visible! We are so excited. Today we are making some Hungry Caterpillar Necklaces :)

Waiting for Wings

Image
We are so very patient, waiting for our butterflies to emerge! The girls are into butterflies, and learning their names. Today outside, Bean yelled, "A swallowtail!" Peanut and Pumpkin are gearing up for their Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Party. They love holding the models of the Butterfly Lifecycle. Our little friends hiding in their chrysalises have a new home, right at eye level for observation. Any day now........tick tock.....

Book Recommendation, Organized Simplicity

Image
I just read this step by step book on organizing your home. It pays homage to Maria Montessori, less is more. Check it out! http://www.amazon.com/Organized-Simplicity-Clutter-Free-Approach-Intentional/dp/1440302634/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1306074985&sr=1-1

Homework, Taken Concretely

Image
Bean attends a play-based public preschool, and they are given 'optional homework' assigned by each child's abilities. She has been coming home with a lot of addition sums up to 10. If she asks for help, we get the addition strip board. She loves it, and she's working to memorize the addition facts. I'm so happy she has the chance to see this math so concretely. "This my favorite thing, Mom!"

Chrysalis!

I really do love this process as much as they do!

My First Waldorf Swap

Image
I made a regional nature/treasure baskets for the swap at One Hook Wonder . It's like a Wampanoag nature postcard, collected at the beach. I hope the recipients have fun making beadwork, pinch pots, and holding real wampum!

Pouring Water and Plant Care for Tots

Image
Well, I discovered this week that it's too soon for me to use YELLOW pouring water.  We   only gave up diapers in the winter, it's giving me twin toddler training flashbacks.... But, they love it.  And yellow is Peanut's favorite color.  I'll add a little red so I don't go running for paper towels when I see it spilled.  Pumpkin is testing out her one handed pouring, and learning quickly that she still needs the two hands, like Mommy taught her.  Clean up is just as fun as pouring for her. Peanut loves taking care of plants.  This picture is part of the activity I put together shown here at Mommy Moment.

Baking Day

Image
Washing Blueberries Measuring and Whisking    We did a lot of art today, and also a TON of food preparation.  The girls made me a chocolate cake for my birthday.  Bean and I made my coworkers blueberry muffins while Pumpkin and Peanut napped (yes, napped!).  Perfect chilly day for baking. Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins 2 cups flour 2 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk 1 pint blueberries (sinful with chocolate chips, I admit) Bake for 20 minutes at 350

Butterflies In The Making

Image
Bean and I made our own butterfly lifecycles to decorate our room. I read a book about lifecycles to her, and the next thing I knew- she had the circle metal inset out to create her own lifecycle! I made one, too. I'm still finding my girls to be much more independent if I make myself busy :) Both of our papers match our models of each stage, so we'll use it as a matching for Pumpkin and Peanut!

Another Montessori Evening

Image
Nature Arranging.  We have collected a lot this week, this tray is for arranging them how the children see fit.  Very Pretty! Peanut love to help me refill my coffee.  My Keurig has this neat spice-tray spinner she adores.  I'm always thankful for her help!   Today she packed my lunch for me, and sent me with a ladle for my yogurt instead of a spoon.  She said she knew I'd be hungry!!! Bean reviewing the cards and counters, working to memorize odd/even.  Notice her concentration even as her two year old sister throws a fit on the floor next to her ;) Mom, take a picture to show Daddy.   Bean and I played with pattern blocks a bit while Peanut and Pumpkin worked on the alphabet train all night.  She took this picture with my Droid.  Repetition, repetition, repetition......  Pumpkin did this puzzle with no help three times in a row tonight.  And again. One last time before bed, Mom?  Okay. ...
