Nature Hunt, Beach!

Today the tots and I snuck away for a special Nature Hunt. We went searching for shells and rocks for our nature collection. We even found a dead fish, not taking it home! We ended up finding a lot of wampum (our area's Native Americans used it as money) , great for our Waldorf Summer Swap at One Hook Wonder.

My favorite part was sitting with them both on my lap watching the tide come in. Ah, relaxation.

Happy Hopping Easter

Happy Easter! This weekend we were busy, spelling our names with movable alphabet letters hidden in eggs all over the house! Also, a lovely free matching game from Montessori Print Shop.

Enjoy your day!

Flower Press Memories

These flowers came from all three flower girl bouquets from my sister's wedding. The middle flowers are from a farm nearby where we pick our own bouquets and arrange them. All beautiful memories, kept safe in our Montessori room.

Our flower press came from Montessori Services, but I've seen them in craft stores off season at a great price.

A Fairy Tea

This day was too sweet, I have to share. My very amazing friend (a Montessori teacher who runs a home program) threw her daughter a Waldorfy Fairy Tea. We made fairies and fairy houses. My girls are fully enchanted!

I'm inspired for the Waldorf Summer Swap at One Hook Wonder now :)

Spring Updates

I added and also simplified many thing in our Montessori room. It has been heavy in sensorial and math. To balance, I added more language and more practical life. The shelf space is limited, so I rotate a lot. The shelves are kind of a mixed bag, but it works for us wonderfully. I made the art materials more independently available. I'll add more pics soon (Mommy is tired tonight, I know my limits!).

Tot Tuesday & Amaryllis Love

Boy oh boy, we were active on this rainy afternoon! I never sat down until after bedtime.
They chose painting, and counting, and flower work. We also spent time in the peace place and snuggled a ton and read our spring and Easter books.

Creative Sensorial

While I spent the day at parent conferences, Dad used the materials with the girls. I feel that as long as they are being respectful, these types of exploration with materials is healthy and beneficial. They made a giraffe!

Sound Cylinders....err...Sound Ovoids :)

We have been thinking about Earth Day and the ideas of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect this month.  With that, I'm looking at a pile of opened plastic Easter eggs and brainstorming.  Suddenly, one of my tots shakes it and starts dancing to her beat.   As they shake them feeling for what is inside, I decided to make a sound matching game, similar to one of the classic Montessori Sensorial materials called Sound Cylinders.   Well, ours would be ovoids...

materials

I gathered a bunch of materials for inside, two blocks, lentils, plastic jewels, rice, and small beads.  I tested all of them myself to make sure they all sound different enough to distinguish a match.  Best for ages 3+ or a child that is not mouthing.  Lots of fun to be had here :)

Crafts on a Rainy Day

Today was a busy day! I got home late from school, and it was a rainy April day. So....off to crafts! My daughter wants to make a butterfly mobile for when we raise our caterpillars next month. Bean wants them to feel comfortable! We used some do-a-dot paints and also some watercolors on coffee filters to create our little butterflies.

We made some Spring sticker cards for the new babies in our lives, and Bean spelled some words! She sounded out and wrote 'sis' and 'will' without help.

Pumpkin and Peanut were busy with our open and close basket, full of old spice containers and plastic bugs!!

While they were busy painting, I put together a few new practical life activities.  I'm finding them to be more independent when I'm making myself busy.  Pom pom transferring and solid container water pouring.

Spring In New England

Today we felt spring as we played outside (for the entire day) and we searched for hints of warm weather. The girls were amazed, the bulbs "slept all winter!"

Although Mafia isn't the word I'd choose, I simply have to share this:

Tot Afternoon

Today I had some time alone with my tots while big sis was at school. We chose metal insets, knobbed cylinder, watercolors, and bead stringing. On the way to get Bean, they napped holding hands. Ah.
