March, In Like a Lion

This afternoon it rained, then snowed. An indoor day, filled with shamrock playdough. Bean is loving holidays right now. "We better make some green sparkled playdough soon for Leprechauns."

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Wiltons green food color
A toddler's handful of gold glitter

Mix in a saucepan on medium until it feels stiff. Cool and play!

Object Box One

Object Box One, Full of 3-letter CVC objects
Objects on the mat
After she matched some words, my 'secret messages'

Purpose
Awareness that the written word has within it the ability to carry a message, to communicate
Awareness that we can read someone’s thought
Help Child explore and analyze the language he uses

 Steps Within The Lesson
  •  I’m thinking of one of these objects.  Write it down, fold it, and pass to the child
  • Child matches the paper to the object
  • Continue on to finish this way
  •  Please read them to me
  • You read all of those words
  • Remove the objects one at a time, have them read them again
  • Repeat until all are gone

Tot Time

Peanut and Pumpkin got some special time this week. Our favorites: plant care, sand tray, and cleaning up after the sand tray. Note to self... make a sweeping work, they are making a mess with the sand tray simply to sweep it. Always fun with these two!

Valentine's Playdate Prep

Tomorrow we are seeing a group of tots and new babies. To prepare, we made a snack of rice krispy treats and hearts for the little ones. We made some Valentines from the tissue paper from Grammy's gifts. A pretty sweet Friday night, even if none of my girls liked their treats...go figure.

We are missing some cubes and a brown stair (working on that!), but its still attractive to the girls. Today they worked together to copy the extensions I drew in my album.

Song For The Fifth Child (although we are done at 3!)

Someone posted this on the bulletin board at school.  It makes me smile, and cry.  Expecially now since my girls are playing with me, and the dinner dishes sit there unwashed.

Song For The Fifth Child

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking!

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep...

The Year Of The Rabbit

Today we worked and celebrated the Chinese New Year.  Today starts the year of the rabbit! We made lanterns out of Valentine's Day themed scrapbook paper, to hang for the whole month.  Bean coined them as 'love lanterns'
